A newcomer to the American Basketball Association (ABA), the expansion Hawthorne Hurricane out of Hawthorne, Florida have hired Minotaur Media, LLC to provide them with graphics throughout the entire 2026-27 ABA season.
Owned by Jasmine L. McLaurin, the Hurricane will compete in the ABA South Region White Division, which is comprised of a total of 10 teams from Florida. Hawthorne is located about 20 minutes east of Gainesville.
The Hurricane are Minotaur Media’s first client from Florida.
“I was intrigued by the Hurricane as soon as the ABA announced their arrival because of the contrast of the image of a massive hurricane and the tiny sparrow in their logo,” said Eric Ivie, owner of Minotaur Media.

A little research revealed that Ms. McLaurin likes the phrase “Even in the storm, His eye is on the sparrow.” A reference to a Biblical story, this phrase is from a classic hymn called “His Eye is on the Sparrow.”
The message is that God is acutely aware of each and every one of His creations, including the tiny sparrow. And since humans are worth more than sparrows, God definitely is watching over each of us.
Ms. McLaurin — a Hawthorne native, a military veteran, a successful businesswoman, and a strong woman of faith — also likes to say that she’s driving the storm.
“I interpret that to mean that she is in firm control of her life, taking it in whatever direction she chooses,” said Ivie. “She also knows that God is watching over her in times of uncertainty, anxiety, and difficulty. Coming from a family of strong women — my mother, my sister, my wife, and my two daughters — I really like Ms. McLaurin’s mindset.
“Knowing this backstory is going to help us create graphics that not only catch people’s eye but that are also true to Ms. McLaurin and the Hurricane organization.”
The Hurricane begin play in mid-October with their first-ever home game on Oct. 17 against the Clay County Storms. Tickets are just $12 each.
