The expansion Naptown Pirates basketball team of the American Basketball Association (ABA) will be holding tryouts April 18-19, 2026 at Stanley Strader Park in Indianapolis for the 2026-27 ABA season.

Owned and coached by Accie “Dewey” Smith, the Pirates have not yet officially been assigned a division in the ABA Central Region, but our guess is that they will be in the Red Division along with fellow Indianapolis Metropolitan Area teams, the Hoosier State Instigators out of Fishers, the Indiana Legends out of New Castle, the Indiana Lyons out of Danville, and the Indiana Shuckers out of Bedford.

Last season’s Red Division also included the Ohio Kings out of Cincinnati, the Louisville Pros, the Clarksville (TN) Phoenix, the Nashville (TN) Aces, and the Knoxville (TN) Commerce.

The ABA season typically runs from early October through early March every year. Playoffs begin in early March and run through mid-April. Many times, ABA teams will play a handful of preseason games in September, although the Pirates’ schedule has not yet been set.

Register for tryouts by calling or texting Coach Smith. Registration fees are $50 in advance or $75 at the door.
